Incredible Small Off-Grid Earthship Home The Earthship is an incredible off-grid, self-sufficient, self-contained studio apartment in the semi-rural Adelaide Hills, just a 45-minute drive from the Auckland central business district. You can stay in this off-grid home where you will experience a unique stay with a tiny eco-footprint. The Earthship is close to Adelaide Hills wineries, golf courses, bush walks, and other tourist attractions. The Freney family lives next door in a passive solar strawbale home located close by if you need advice on sailing the ‘ship’. This is a place where you can experience the future of sustainable housing.

 Off-Grid Earthship Home

The off-grid home can accommodate up to 2 guests with 1 bedroom and 1 bath. The Earthship has Wifi. Guests will need to respect the limitations of the off-grid systems for power, water, and sewage and take care of the natural building finishes. The queen-size bed is a 100 percent latex futon mattress, low to the ground so it may be difficult to get in and out of bed if you are elderly. Sheets are luxurious 1200 thread count pure cotton. During your vacation stay you can enjoy delicious vegetarian breakfast ingredients, including free-range eggs and honey from the property which are supplied (but not prepared/served). The kitchen includes a double gas burner, under bench fridge (with a tiny freezer compartment), a microwave, and a wood oven which is great for making pizzas (although not recommended for use during summer months). Firewood is supplied from May to October.

Guests will have the Earthship all to themselves. There is a steep access track from the carpark behind the vacation rental to the Earthship so it is not ideal for people with mobility issues such as wheelchairs and walkers although it is possible with some assistance.

An Earthship is an off-the-grid and self-sufficient home that is made out of primarily natural and recycled materials like earth-rammed tires, cans, and bottles. Earthships harvest their own water from the sky and recycle that water multiple times. They grow their own food, treat their sewage, and collect power from the sun and wind. One week, two weeks, three weeks, or more. There is a 10 percent discount for all weekly Earthship rentals. Earthships allow people to experience a luxurious off-grid life. Being self-sufficient does not mean reducing one’s quality of life. The Earthship rental homes are equipped with all amenities that conventional housing provides, including Internet and Netflix, flat-screen TV, refrigeration, propane oven, cookware, place settings, hot water, and linens. Most of the Earthships rentals are located at the Greater World Earthship Community in the beautiful scenic setting of the Sangre de Cristo mountains near the town of Taos, New Mexico.
